Laura Smiley,
Artistic Director & Executive Director
Laura is the Artistic and Executive Director, as well as a founding member of Unseam’d Shakespeare Company which just completed its 20th year of productions. Along with acting and directing in the Pittsburgh area, she has taught acting, voice, and movement at many area universities. In addition to many roles with Unseam’d Shakespeare, Laura has performed for PPT, Starlight Productions, City Theatre, and her one-woman show, Building. She has directed for Bloomsburg University, Indiana University of PA, and Slippery Rock University as well as collaborations with the City Theatre, and the Pgh. Chamber Music Society and Living Images Arts in NYC. Formerly based in Washington D.C., she received her BFA in Acting from Catholic University, where she worked with the Shakespeare Theatre, Horizons Theatre, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and Open Theatre. She received an MFA in Acting from the University of Pittsburgh. She is an Associate Professor at Slippery Rock University where she just celebrated her 10th year of teaching there. Currently, she is the Vice-Chair for the New Playwright’s Program for the Region 2 American College Theatre Festival.
Andy Kirtland,
Artistic Associate
Andy’s career has taken him from Baltimore to Chicago, New York City, Cincinnati and now Pittsburgh. In the Steel City he has appeared with Pittsburgh Playback Theatre, Pittsburgh Shakespeare in the Park and Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre. For Unseam’d Shakespeare Company, he has directed The Two Gentlemen of Verona in the Unrehearsed Cue Script Style, a technique in which he has worked since 2001 and now teaches. He holds a BA in Theatre from Dickinson College and has studied at the British American Drama Academy.
